Planet Of The Dinosaurs 1977 is chock full of cheesy sound effects and caterpillar like moustaches. There is a distinct misogynistic vibe to the acting even when you consider the time this movie was made in, it is cringeworthy. With that in mind it's hard to engage with the protagonists. They are made even less engaging with their flat dialogue. twenty minutes in and with the first good view of the stop motion dinosaurs this movie starts to show its real charm. The dinosaur models are great even if a little dated (is that possible with dinosaurs). They really had stop motion down as an artform by the late seventies. It won't sit well with modern viewers particularly as feminism takes a firm back seat, but it can still be enjoyed for the dinosaur action alone. Also, moustaches, there are some fine upper lip adornments on offer here.
